The Host

Alright, here is the last novel that I read: The Host by Stephenie Meyer.

I have read all four novels in the Twilight saga by this author prior to reading this novel. To tell you the truth I wasn't really interested in reading the book, however I had some family members mention their reading it, so I thought that I would give it a try.

All in all, it was a good novel. I felt that it was a bit long and that it dragged on in parts. I didn't really get into the book until about 400 pages in, so I felt that I was struggling to get through it in the beginning to get the the interesting parts. And I don't even what to talk about the way that the book ends.

Okay, so it wasn't my favorite book, but there were still some positives of the book. The story line is a unique one, that of "souls" taking control of the human "host' body. It was interesting to see the conflict between the soul, Wanderer, and the human body, Melanie. They find a way in which they can co-habitat in the same body.

As for a recomendation on a scale of 1 to 10, I give The Host a 3. I t would recommend it if someone came looking for a fantasy/sci-fi with romance and a clever twist.

Okay, I'm back

After a nine month sojourn, in which I did not have a child :), I am back to continue my blogging efforts. For those of you who do not know, I will be going to grad school in the fall to receive a masters in Library Science. What is that you may ask. Well I'm going to become a librarian. So, I feel that now, before I fall of the face of the earth, I will start this blog up again as a way for you to be informed on my happenings.

I sure that I will be making changes and moving things around wildly soon enough, but just stick with me till I work out the kinks. I promise I will give you your money's worth. Though you realize you are paying nothing, but that is not the point.

Anyway, I keep you posted here on life. Espically once I know what school I'm going to.

I Spy Treasure Hunt

So for my Sunday (into Monday) Selection of the week, I "read" I Spy Treasure Hunt (1999). And I'm not going to lie to you, these books are harder then I remember them being as a child. However, maybe as I child I had more patience for the books and didn't think that they should be easy for me. So I appluad Mr Wick and Ms. Marzollo for yet another clever picture riddle book.

This book was a bit different from the other I Spy books because for the first time Wick decided to make one main set for most of the pictures. This developes more of a story from the pictures then any of the others had, which I thought was pretty cool.

However, I think that the interesting part of this book may be why it is that I have it. Of course my parents still own all the I Spy books that we had when I was a child, but this is the first one that I own for myself. And here is why:

If you have the chance to go and see the Walter Wick's exhibit at BYU's Museum of Art, I highly recommend it. I loved it, and I'm often hesitant to go to museums. The reason for this maybe that I was able to relive some of my childhood at this exhibit. However, I loved the memories that I had as I went through and looked at the different photos and rememebered studying so many of them as a child.

I also found that there are more books that Walter Wick has done. They include he's most recent series, Can You See What I See?, a set of books that are very similar to I Spy books but do not have the riddles by Jean Marzollo. Also, he created the books: A Drop of Water: A Book of Science and Wonder and Walter Wick's Optical Tricks.

So go find those old I Spy books that you had as a kid, or go to the library and check out some of the works of Walter Wick. I promise you that it will be worth it.

This Blog

So for any of you that know that I had a blog before, I did make a new blog and the other one is gone. But I think that this one will be a lot more fun for me to write in and keep up with.

I dedicate this blog to the books that I read. I will come in and let you know what I have read and give some recommendations. I'll tell you know that they probably won't be literary masterpieces, and to tell you the truth a lot of them will be children or young adult books, since those are my favorite ones to read.

So anyways, that is the plan for this blog and I will be back shortly with my first entry.
